Story

Mausam, an out and out love story, has Shahid playing a fighter pilot named Harinder Singh in the Air Force. Air Force is an important part of the script. Pankaj Kapoor took special permission from the Air Force to make sure the forces are represented correctly in the film.
Sonam Kapoor plays a Kashmiri girl, and Supriya Pathak her aunt. Aditi Sharma also plays Shahid's love interest in the first half of the film but Shahid's love gravitates towards Sonam Kapoor eventually. The film spans over 10 years, covering part of the 1990s. Shahid will be seen in four different looks.
"I am trying to learn flying fighter planes. I am playing the role of an air force officer in my father's film, so there will be certain amount of exposure that I am trying to gain. But there are lots of permission that need to be taken and I also need to start shooting in three weeks ... but yes I am trying to go to some of the air bases and if that is possible and authorities really allow me, then I would really love to go for that because it would really help me understand my character," he said.
There have also been reprots that he plays a depressed man. Mid Day reports that Shahid has stopped his daily workouts in order to get the right look.

Final Schedule

The final schedule of the film commenced on April 17, 2011.
"on set #MAUSAM ... Last few days to go almost through with this enormous one !!! Will be exactly a year by the time we are done :)"
Early morning on April 24, Shahid Kapoor tweeted:
"Heading off to swidzerland for MAUSAM ! Last 15 days on the film."

Expensive Promotional Song

A promotional song and dance choreographed by Ahmed Khan has cost the producer Rs 1.5crore. An elaborate set has been set up at the Royal Palms in Goregaon and it is being filmed since Sunday, March 27. The highlight of the song is that the lead pair stay in their character unlike most other promotional songs which are rarely in context to the film.

Shahid Kapoor: I am the first Indian actor to fly an F-16

Shahid Kapoor flew a F16 Super Viper at the Aero India Show in Bangalore on Saturday, February 12. Talking about his experience Shahid said, "It was unbelievable. The experience could not be defined, it needs to be felt. We were on a mission. We went upto 10,000 feet and then the pilot let me hold the stick. We did dog fights and took a 360 degree turn. We went upto 6G, where we feel six times our body weight. This is a privilege, a prestigious opportunity that civilians will not get. I think I am the first Indian actor to fly an F-16."
Shahid's father and director of the film, Pankaj Kapoor, said he is hoping people get to know more about a fighter pilot's life through his film.
"People should get to know about their lives and be inspired by the initiative (movie). The movie is a love story. The Air Force becomes a big and brave part of it. I am not competing with any of the movies made earlier on the same themes" said senior Kapoor.
Shahid shared his excitement with his twitter fans a day earlier:
"Heading to bangaluru for my f16 experience .... Wooosaaaaaaa" Shahid tweeted on February 11.
The leading lady, Sonam Kapoor sent this tweet to her co-star on February 11:
"yo @shahidkapoor i heard your flying the f-16 at the bangalore air show tom!!! you are a rockstar! see you soon sash! im so J RIGHT NOW!!" (February 12, 2011)

Shahid to Fly F-16IN For the Film

Shahid will reportedly fly a F-16IN Super Viper sortie for the film on February 19, accompanied by a USAF pilot. The F-16IN will be here for Aero India 2011.

Punjab Shooting Schedule Complete

A 60 day shooting schedule in Punjab was completed on January 22, 2011.

Shahid Kapoor Paired with Aditi Sharma in First Half

Shahid Kapoor romances Aditi Sharma in the first half of the film, and Sonam Kapoor in the second half. Aditi was last seen in Subhash Ghai's Black And White. (January 5, 2011)

Filming in Punjab

The next schedule of Mausam is currently being filmed in Punjab. While Shahid has been in Punjab since November, Sonam and Aditi Sharma took turns to film their scenes. As of early Jan 2011 the Mausam team continues to shoot in the harsh winters of Punjab.

First Schedule Completed in Edinburgh
The first schedule of the film was completed in Edinburgh on July 27, 2010. Shahid Kapoor was the last one to wrap up. After spending 65 days in the country, 30% of the film was canned.
Sonam Kapoor wrapped up on July 25 and immediately immersed herself into Aisha promotions.
Shahid Filming at Airbase in G Suit with 4 Tornados

Shahid's last day of shoot in Scotland is at an airbase with fighter jets.
"Morning all heading to the air base in my G suit .... 4 tornados to be used for shoot today !!" he tweeted on July 27.
Sonam Kapoor wrapped up and left Scotland on July 24.
Shahid Kapoor to Rock Scottish Kilt in Mausam
Shahid Kapoor recently filmed a scene for Mausam wearing a Scottish kilt. We have yet to get over recently published on set photos of Shahid looking debonair dressed as an Air Force fighter pilot and now this. Shahid in a kilt! How much better can it get?
We have loved the information about the film that Shahid has been sharing over Twitter, especially the promise of old world charm in the film. For example, Shahid will be seen wooing his love interest in the film, Sonam Kapoor, over waltz. (July 25, 2010)
First Schedule to Wrap Up by July End

Sonam Resumes Filming
Sonam Kapoor is back to Edinburgh after a two week break in Mumbai that she used to promote two of her films - I Hate Love Stories (released on July 2) and Aisha (music launched on July 4). (July 5, 2010)
Filming Underway
Shahid had hurt his back around June 20 while filming in Edinburgh which delayed the schedule by a week.
Filming started in Scotland on June 4
"Start shooting day after gearing up .. Not feeling too well today .. Although sun is out n its a beautiful day," Shahid tweeted on June 2.
The first filming schedule was pushed back twice because of flight disruptions to Europe caused by volcanic ash.
Shahid has four different looks
Shahid reportedly has four different looks in the film to represent the seasons. He has a beard with his last look, corresponding to the winter season.
Setting
The film is set in Kashmir but will be reportedly shot in Edinburgh due to security reasons. Other locales include Delhi, Punjab, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The cast and crew will leave for Edinburgh on May 1 and will shoot till June 30.
Designer
Anamika Khanna is designing Sonam's costumes. She worked with Sonam earlier in Delhi-6.
In the film, Sonam plays a young women for the first time, instead of a young girl.
Mamta Anand is the stylist for Shahid in the film. Shahid has four different looks in the film, including a bearded look in the end.
Shahid has flown his trainer Abbas Ali from Mumbai to Scotland to be trained in the sport of Parkour. Abbas trained Shahid for his muscular look in Kaminey and Chance Pe Dance.
Pankaj Kapoor's directorial venture
Mausam is a directorial debut of Shahid's father Pankaj Kapur who has also penned the film. He says he took three years of thinking and planning the script and took 6 months to physically write the script.
This is a long awaited project that will see the father and son team up.
Sonam Kapoor was selected as the female lead in early February, 2010.
Pankaj Kapoor reportedly screen tested Shaturghan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi Sinha and Govinda's daughter Narmada. Also screen tested was Shazahn Padamsee, who made her debut in Rocket Singh, but was found to be very expressionless for the role.
The film is scheduled to be filmed in Austria, the UK, Spain, Italy and India.
